While attending culinary school, Mara Tirado made a birthday cake in the shape of a penis for a classmate's gay
boyfriend. The cake was a hit. So in 2006, after Tirado had graduated and was having trouble finding a job, she wondered whether
dirty cakes could be her niche and went online to look for bakeries that specialized in erotic cakes. "There were only
a few," she recalls, "and one of them … their cakes were awful. I knew I could do so much better. Now, everybody
and their dogs are doing them because now everybody wants to make naughty cakes."
Although some bakeries offer
dirty cakes in addition to typical bakery fare, Tirado's two–year–old Risque Business Bakery and Cafe focuses on erotic cakes, cookies, chocolates
and candy. Occasionally, she'll grant a customer's request for something nonerotic, such as a SpongeBob cake. "But I
really don't want to," she admits. "And I don't advertise that I do straight cakes."
Tirado's customers
don't typically come to her for traditional cakes, anyway. They're more interested in boobie bonbons, penis lollipops and
butt cakes. Her clients include a porn company that features her cakes in its films. "[I've] made three cakes already
for a porn film," she says. "They get delivered and the guy strips. The girls get the cake delivered and then do
the delivery guy."
The erotic specialties Tirado creates sell from $1.85 for a chocolate penis lollipop
to $550 for a naughty tiered cake designed to feed 100 people. Her other cakes include "Miss Understood," topped
with girlie chocolates, heels, lipstick, purse and a penis "for the big beautiful tranny or queen in your life";
and "This Butt's for You," which is decorated with little derrières.
